Are you a fan of Indonesian action movies looking for a healthy dose of humor mixed in? If so, then you’re in luck, as upcoming action-comedy film Hit N Run promises to bring thrills and laughs to a cinema near you this year.
ction comedy Hit N Run, slated for a mid-year release, is packed with high-caliber actors, from Joe Taslim, Tatjana Saphira and Yayan Ruhiyan to Jefri Nichol.
The movie, directed by Ody C. Harahap, has Joe in the leading role, making it his first big-screen movie as lead since the Netflix-only The Night Comes For Us.
Joe, who also serves as the movie’s creative producer, said he did not have any issues when getting into his role, which is quite the departure from his usual high-octane, serious roles.
“For me, when acting in any kind of genre, as long as we know the character’s background and script really well, it’ll flow naturally. In my previous roles, the characters were described as having a dark past or an explosive personality and I played them according to the writers' wishes,” Joe said.
Joe found the script of Hit N Run to be detailed regarding his character, giving him several sides, which allowed more comedic scenes.
The film’s plot has Joe in the role of Tegar, a heroic police officer who has to collaborate with his friends to take down an all-powerful crime lord.
The movie also involves action choreography from Iko Uwais’ team, as well as a number of martial arts athletes, including 2016 National Games Wushu gold medalist David Hendrawan, three-time SEA Games Judo gold medalist Peter Taslim and 2018 Asian Games Ju-jitsu athlete Simone Julia.
“In most action-comedy movies, important elements such as drama or action are sometimes sacrificed for the sake of comedy. In this movie, we tried to make it funny and entertaining, but still deliver the action you need in action scenes,” Joe said.
“Most of the action movies I’ve previously starred in were quite gory and thus not suitable for a lot of viewers. Probably my character was too dark, or what was happening on screen too extreme, but [in Hit N Run] we’re trying to make an action-comedy that is suitable for everyone.” (ste)
