ozens of designers from East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) will be showcasing their woven fabrics at the upcoming Indonesia Fashion Week (IFW) 2019, set to take place from March 27 to 31 in Jakarta.

These local designers, originating from 22 cities across NTT, have received mentorship from three national designers, namely Defrico Audy, Handy Hartono and Musa Widyatmodjo.

The chairman of the NTT Handicraft Council (Dekranasda), Julie S. Laiskodat, said woven fabric was now in high demand among Indonesians. Many Indonesians, including fashion designers themselves, wear the traditional fabric as their daily clothes.

“The reason why we are involving national designers as their mentors is to help them learn so that they can channel their creativity in designing into a high-quality woven product with a traditional touch,” she said as quoted by kompas.com

As the traditional fabric is starting to gain more popularity, the council is enthusiastic about promoting NTT’s woven fabric to the public.

“This is what makes the board feel eager to showcase hundreds of woven fabrics from NTT's local designers at the upcoming IFW,” she said, adding that she hoped this event would increase public awareness about NTT’s woven fabric. (dpk/kes)
