It is a typical freshman-year romance. Two people teasing each other, arguing about Pride and Prejudice and almost kissing at a party, eventually fall for each other, sharing their love of English literature. Friends and family try to warn Tessa but following her heart she breaks up with her high school sweetheart, Noah Porter (Dylan Arnold), and moves in with Hardin (Hero Fiennes-Tiffin).
They seem to make an intriguing couple. She, the good girl, dedicated student and virgin. He, the bad mysterious boy, inked and haunted by his past.
Never believing in love as he considers it to be fictional, Hardin finds his own Elizabeth Bennet of Pride and Prejudice, “the person he loves the most”, in Tessa. Everything seems to be perfect, until Tessa watches a video that changes everything.
After being separated for a while and receiving a special romantic message, both end up at their secret place, a lake in the middle of nowhere. As the young lovebirds silently look at the water, the movie comes to an end.
After might remind you of your first love and how you promised each other that nothing would ever change your feelings. Apart from that, the movie does not really offer an intriguing twist or special message, but a lost plot and an unexpected open ending.
When watching the couple sitting at the lake, the question is what happens after, hence the title. Fans can only hope that there will be a sequel soon.
The cast also includes Selma Blair who plays Tessa’s mother, and Peter Gallagher who plays the father who has a complicated relationship with his son, Hardin. (sop/mut)
