In a blog post titled “Time to Say Goodbye”, Emtek company, which partnered with BlackBerry in 2016, announced the closure.
Today we’re announcing that we will be closing BBM consumer service on 31 May 2019.

“Three years ago, we set out to reinvigorate BBM consumer service, one of the most loved instant messaging applications. The technology industry however, is very fluid, and in spite of our substantial efforts, users have moved on to other platforms, while new users proved difficult to sign on”, it says.

The Verge reported that the enterprise version of the app, called BBMe, would continue operations.
It is available to download for free on Google Play Store, with a US$2.49 subscription for six months of service. The service will soon come to the Apple App Store.
Like the consumer version, BBM Enterprise features group chats, voice and video calls and the ability to edit and retract messages. (wng)
