ith the release of Stranger Things season 3 right around the corner, Netflix has dropped the final trailer for the highly anticipated series.

Setting the tone for the new season, the trailer opens with an ominous voice-over, and it is soon revealed that the Mind Flayer (the previous season’s monstrous villain) has somehow taken control of Billy, the show’s crass lifeguard. While it may preemptively reveal the season’s main villain, there is plenty of uncertainty about the new plague of monsters featured in the trailer.

The final trailer certainly presents a season that ups the ante and is much larger in scope than the previous season, continuing the series’ trend of escalating the supernatural horror. From government helicopters storming the town to masked scientists in Hazmat suits firing mysterious weaponry, this season looks to be the most action packed to date.

But it also balances that action with character building moments. Some of these moments were highlighted in the trailer such as Eleven’s relationship with her father figure police chief Hopper (David Harbour) and her closest friend Mike (Finn Wolfhard)

Stranger Things season 3 is set to return to Netflix on July 4. (nic/kes)
