A

Dayak cultural event is set to be held at the Workshop in Ubud, Bali, on Aug. 3-4 as part of the International Indigenous People's Day celebration.

Initiated by Central Kalimantan-based social enterprise Handep, the event is said to feature several different activities, from antique Dayak plaited arts exhibition, weaving demo and workshops, Dayak tattooing and jewelry, to a Sape performance, documentary screening on issues facing indigenous Dayaks and traditional Dayak food.

Founded in 2018 by Randi Miranda, who is a Dayak himself and was educated in Australia and America, Handep aims to support indigenous women and farmers through ecofashion weaving products. Most of its ecofashion products, which include handcrafted bags, hats and baskets made of rattan adorned in traditional Dayak weaving patterns, are currently sold in Bali and other regions. (nic/kes)
