Organized by Tanoker, this year’s Bamboo Stilts Festival boasts Memuliakan Desa (Glorifying the Village) as its theme to commemorate local values in Ledokombo district.

The festival’s 10th anniversary celebration is to also feature other events, namely a drawing competition for elementary students within Jember regency and a bamboo stilt race for kindergarten students on Aug. 25, a national workshop on Sept. 20, a children’s jamboree on Sept. 19 and 20 and the Village Culinary Festival on Sept. 20 and 21.
Additionally, the event also hosts mural and handicraft competitions that started on July 1 and are to run until Sept. 10.
Organized by Tanoker, a community known for promoting traditional children’s games, this year’s Bamboo Stilts Festival boasts Memuliakan Desa (Glorifying the Village) as its theme to commemorate local values in Ledokombo district.
“The festival is held to protect the young generations from human trafficking, extremism and violence,” said Tanoker founder Soepohardjo in a statement. “Ledokombo has often been given a stigma for being an area that has a large number of migrant laborers. The youngsters are often perceived to be delinquent and stubborn and they keep getting resistance from their surroundings.” (wir/kes)
