Fashion brand Kate Spade New York launched its fall 2019 collection in Plaza Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday.

Under the watchful eye of creative director Nicola Glass, the brand has undergone a quite significant transformation. This season, fans of the brand will no longer see quirky handbags or polka-dot tote bags as the brand offers a more sophisticated style.

“For the Fall season, I started by imagining raiding an insanely glamorous woman’s closet and the rich, eclectic mix you’d find that you could make your own. I was inspired by the idea of a woman’s closet – the thought of where clothes end up rather than where they originated. I envisioned women who are looking for clothes that are spirited, feminine and fundamentally effortless,” said Glass in a statement.

With that in mind, Glass came up with more versatile designs involving animal prints, snakeskin and haircalf.

At the launch animal prints were seen to dominate the ready-to-wear collection.

Meanwhile, the Nicola bag was among the highlights in the handbag department. First appearing in the spring 2019 collection, the design comes with new textures, namely snakeskin and haircalf.

Despite its more sophisticated look, the bag features a heart-shaped twistlock that can be turned into a spade, adding a twist to the design, which is in line with Kate Spade’s DNA. (kes)
