Former United States president Barack Obama has continued his tradition of sharing lists of his favorite songs and books.
On Aug. 25, he posted “Summer Playlist 2019” on Instagram, with a caption that read, “With summer winding down, here’s a sampling of what Michelle and I have been listening to—some new, some old, some fast, some slow. Hope you enjoy.”
The list contains 44 songs by artists that range from Van Morrison and Sharon Van Etten to Lizzo.
Other entries include popular summer songs of the year, such as “Senorita” by Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello as well as “Old Town Road” by Lil Nas X feat. Billy Ray Cyrus.
Musicians included in the list posted their reactions afterward, such as Lizzo who tweeted, “We’re friends now, I don’t make the rules”.
Sharon Van Etten said, “Thank you @barackobama and @michelleobama for caring about music. Means the world my song has been in rotation on your incredible playlist.”
Meanwhile, Lil Nas posted a picture of a photoshopped image of Obama’s head on his body.

It's August, so I wanted to let you know about a few books I've been reading this summer, in case you're looking for some suggestions. To start, you can't go wrong by reading or re-reading the collected works of Toni Morrison. Beloved, Song of Solomon, The Bluest Eye, Sula, everything else — they're transcendent, all of them. You’ll be glad you read them. And while I’m at it, here are a few more titles you might want to explore.
