Musician Djaduk Ferianto dies at 55

The funeral service will take place at the Bagong Kussudiardjo Art Hermitage in Yogyakarta on Wednesday at noon. His body will be buried in the family’s graveyard complex at 3 p.m. the same day.

usician Djaduk Ferianto, 55, died on Wednesday early morning, days before he was slated to perform at the Ngayogjazz Jazz Festival in Godean, Yogyakarta.

Djaduk’s older brother Butet Kartaredjasa made a post on his Instagram account @masbutet about his brother's death. “RIP Djaduk Ferianto,” Butet wrote in the caption of the image, which shows white text reading "Sumangga Gusti" (As you please, Lord) on a black background.

Djaduk's friend, Debyo, also confirmed that the musician had died, saying that he died at 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

The funeral service will take place at the Bagong Kussudiardja Art Hermitage in Yogyakarta on Wednesday at noon.

The body will be buried in the family’s graveyard complex in Sembungan in Kasihan, Bantul, Yogyakarta, at 3 p.m. the same day.

Djaduk's death came as a shock to many as Djaduk was scheduled to perform at the Ngayogjazz Jazz Festival on Saturday.

Djaduk Ferianto was born in Yogyakarta on July 19, 1964, as the youngest child of choreographer and artist Bagong Kussudiardja.

Djaduk played with music groups Kua Etnika and Sinten Remen, using elements of traditional and modern music. He was also a member of Yogyakarta theater group Teater Gandrik and directed several theatrical shows as well as wrote music for films.

He is survived by a wife and five children. (ami)
