"Serenata Jiwa Lara", the latest single from Diskoria featuring Dian Sastrowardoyo, pays homage to 1980 song “Lagu Putih” written by Guruh Soekarno Putra.
J duo Diskoria have collaborated with actress Dian Sastrowardoyo in their latest single “Serenata Jiwa Lara” (Sad Soul Serenade).
Released on March 17, the song is reminiscent of 1980's pop music with distinct touches of keyboards and bass. Through its music and lyrics in which the singer laments a broken heart, the song seems to pay homage to 1980's song “Lagu Putih” (White Song) by renowned songwriter Guruh Soekarno Putra.
“Serenata Jiwa Lara” was written and produced by Laleilmanino, a group of songwriters consisting of three musicians. Lale and Ilman are from pop jazz band Maliq & D’Essentials while Nino is known as the singer of pop band RAN. The song is available on streaming platforms, including Spotify and Apple Music.
The music video, directed by Anton Ismael, brings to mind music shows on state-owned television broadcaster TVRI in the 1980s. The image is made bolder with Diskoria, Dian and Laleilmanino donning vintage outfits.

According to kompas.com, “Serenata Jiwa Lara” is dedicated to supporting Irama Nusantara, an institution that focuses on preserving and archiving data and information on Indonesian popular music. The institution has a website for those who wish to find digital versions of the music.
Founded in 2015, Diskoria consists of Merdi Leonardo Simandjuntak and Fadli Aat. They’re known for bringing back Indonesian songs from the 1970s to 1990s in their DJ sets, and are partly responsible for the public karaoke trend often found in big cities across Indonesia since 2018.
Their first single, “Balada Insan Muda” (Ballad of Crazy Youth) was released in early 2019. (wir/wng)
