Singer Didi Kempot will hold a virtual charity concert at his home on April 11 at 7 p.m.

Dubbed Konser Amal dari Rumah (charity concert from home), the show will air on KOMPAS TV television channel and its website.

The singer posted on Instagram that the concert would raise funds for those who have lost their jobs due to the COVID-19 pandemic, especially small-scale vendors and informal workers.

Organized by KOMPAS TV, donations began on Tuesday on crowdfunding platform Kitabisa and people can contribute through bank transfer, Gojek’s wallet platform GoPay or credit cards. On Thursday, the funds collected had reached Rp 222 million (US$13,813) of its Rp 3 billion target.

Didi, who mostly performs in the campursari (a blend of traditional Javanese and modern music) genre, encouraged his fans to watch from the safety of their homes

“Hopefully, this charity concert can heal your feelings of longing,” wrote Didi.

In March, the singer held a virtual show from his home as part of his collaboration with digital content platform Narasi.tv.

Last year, Didi Kempot began to gain mainstream popularity as Lord Didi, the Godfather of Broken Hearts, due to his lovelorn lyrics sung in Javanese. He is especially popular with young people, who call themselves “sad boys” and “sad girls”. (wir/wng)
