In an interview with Billboard, Joji said, "Back in the day, I feel like you had a favorite part of a song, and now that's not really a thing anymore. So I thought it would just be nice to kind of have a song that's long and in two parts."

In “Gimme Love”, the first part features brisk electronic beats while the second part is more solemn, with strings and voices singing in harmony.

An elaborate music video for the song was directed by Joji with Andrew Donoho, featuring the musician as a scientist hoping to escape Earth.

“Gimme Love” is the third single of the album, following songs “Sanctuary” and “Run”, which were released in June 2019 and February 2020, respectively.

Joji, whose real name is George Miller, started out as a YouTube personality. Based in the United States, he began to focus on music in 2017 and released the EP In Tongues in November that year. His debut studio album, Ballads 1, was released in October 2018 and reached number 1 on the Billboard’s top R&B and hip-hop chart one month later. (wng)
