ending gift boxes to cherished ones has long been part of the Idul Fitri celebration in Indonesia. Adorned with Ramadan-themed decoration, the gift packages are mostly composed of jars of cookies and sweet tidbits.
Aside from cookies, a number of brands have also created gift baskets with creative items, and of them is artisanal soap.
Bandung-based homemade soap brand Don’t Drop the Soap posted on Instagram two types of gift sets that mainly consist of soap bars, traveling soap (pocket-sized shredded soap) and a succulent plant, with prices start at Rp 120,000 (US$8.05).
“These handmade soaps are made of organic ingredients that won’t dry out your skin even if you use them often,” wrote the brand.
Similarly, another artisanal soap maker, Soap Addict, is offering three types of gift boxes called Bundle A, B and C. Bundle A contains a soap bar, goat milk hand cream, a handmade brooch created by accessories brand Bumbleberry, foaming net and card. All items are encased in a box with prices starting from Rp 80,000.
Established in 2013, Soap Addict uses natural ingredients without paraben and chemical compound sodium laureth sulfate (SLS). Their boxes can be ordered via Shopee.
For gifts with a bittersweet flavor, you may want to check The Brown Hare’s Instagram. The food and beverage brand offers three types of boxes for this year’s celebration: Basic, Signature and Ramadan. The Basic consists of a big box of chocolate, hot ginger drink from beverage brand The Hoppers, a wooden spoon and a card with prices starting from Rp 195,000. Different varieties are available for the big box of chocolate, such as milk, dark, rum, Biscoff and Baileys.
Boxes can be pre-ordered via Shopee or Tokopedia.
If you wish to present a special gift of tea for friends or family, you may want to explore Tea Et Al’s website. The tea café brand provides a wide array of boxes, among them are the Classic Tube Collection and Bamboo Tea Set.
The Classic Tube Collection includes three loose teas, organic honey and wooden honey dipper with prices starting from Rp 479,000, while the Bamboo Tea Set is composed of a bamboo teapot, four teacups, one decanter and a small box of tea leaves or tisanes with prices starting from Rp 1,499,000.

For dishes with an Indonesian touch, café and restaurant Oū Tu offers boxes of the savory ketupat sayur (rice compressed in woven palm leaf pouches served with vegetables, boiled egg and curry soup) for five and three portions.
For prices starting from Rp 385,000, you will receive the hampers placed in a woven bamboo container. It’s also a perfect gift for Idul Fitri as ketupat sayur is often served during the celebration. Contact the restaurant via Instagram direct message or WhatsApp at +62896-1410-5243 for orders.
Inflight catering company Aerofood ACS Jakarta is also offering boxes comprising Indonesian traditional dishes usually found in Idul Fitri celebration. Three types of boxes are available, namely Delightful Gift, Marvelous Gift (beef) and Marvelous Gift (chicken). With each gift containing up to five portions. All are packed in traditional woven bamboo containers.
Marvelous Gifts (chicken) consists of opor ayam (traditional dish of braised chicken in coconut milk), sambal goreng ati (fried chicken liver with diced potato and beans), gulai sayur labu (chayote in curry soup), telur balado (egg with balado sambal) and ketupat (rice compressed in woven palm leaf pouches). The gift is available with prices starting from Rp 200,000.
