Benny was a member of 1960s funk band The Rollies.
Legendary jazz musician Benny Likumahuwa passed away on Tuesday morning at the age of 73.
Born on June 18, 1946 in the East Java city of Kediri, Benny was a member of 1960s funk band The Rollies.
During a 2008 tribute concert for late rocker Gito Rollies, who was the vocalist of The Rollies, Benny was asked about the continuity of the band and said at the time that: “We will continue playing music until we’re gone."
Benny was known as a multi-talented musician as he was able to play various musical instruments, including the bongos, clarinet, saxophone and trombone.
He performed at numerous jazz festivals held in Indonesia and abroad, including in neighboring countries Singapore and Malaysia. He often shared the stage alongside his son, musician Barry Likumahuwa. (wir/kes)
