After being postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, metal music festival Hammersonic is to be held on Jan. 15 to 17 at Carnaval Beach Ancol, North Jakarta with health protocols in place.
The organizers announced on Instagram Thursday that they would disinfect the entry area and provide handwashing facilities as part of safety measures.
Festival-goers will also be required to wear a face mask, bring their own hand sanitizer, wash their hands regularly and maintain a safe distance from one another.
Some netizens questioned the measures though, especially regarding the safe distancing rule as moshing is a popular activity during such concerts.
“How can we maintain distance in the mosh pit with dozens of other people?” asked one Instagram user @anggakuz.

“I agree [with these precautions]; as long as it's still [a live] concert. But I want my money back if it later turns into a virtual concert,” said @3.feet.from.peace.
American heavy metal band Slipknot will remain the concert's headliner, performing on Jan. 17.
Hammersonic 2020 was initially slated for March 27-28 at the same location with a lineup that includes American punk rock band Black Flag and Slipknot. The event was later postponed to January next year due to the still alarming COVID-19 outbreak.
Promoter Ravel Entertainment said in early March that the 2021 Hammersonic would feature the same lineup with the addition of three headliners and two coheadliners.
First held in 2012, Hammersonic is considered one of largest metal and rock festivals in Southeast Asia. Among its previous performers were Bullet for My Valentine, Lamb of God and Megadeth. (wir/kes)
