or his latest horror flick, Jailangkung 3, director Kimo Stamboel said he wanted to add a new touch to the sequel to popular movies Jailangkung (2017) and Jailangkung 2 (2018).
“We will bring a new perspective to Jailangkung 3, so it’ll be a new film with a new story line and actors,” Kimo said during a live session on Cinema XXI’s Instagram, as quoted by kompas.com.
Directed by Jose Poernomo and Rizal Mantovani, Jailangkung and Jailangkung 2 center around Bella (Amanda Rawles) who protects her family from evil spirits with a jailangkung (a traditional doll often used to summon spirits).
Jailangkung 3 is written by Rinaldy Puspoyo and tells the story of a family on their way to a vacation in a secluded area with beautiful natural scenery. Along the way, one child goes missing followed by strange incidents.
Shooting for the film, which took place in Yogyakarta over 22 days, has wrapped up.
The cast includes Titi Kamal, Dwi Sasono, Syifa Hadju and Muzakki Ramdhan.
“I’ve always wanted to collaborate with them. Dwi Sasono is a talented actor who can play various characters, while Titi’s character will relate emotionally to the film,” Kimo said. “Syifa Hadju is a teen actor with a unique character and Muzakki’s experience in Ratu Ilmu Hitam [Queen of Black Magic] made him suitable for this movie.”
Kimo has several horror films under his belt, including Dreadout (2019) and Ratu Ilmu Hitam (2019). He’s known as part of The Mo Brothers director duo with Timo Tjahjanto. Both have helmed award-winning horror-slasher Macabre (2009), thriller Killers (2014) and action movie Headshot (2016), among other films. (wir/wng)
