Kusala Sastra Khatulistiwa announces 2020 shortlist

The winners of Kusala Sastra Khatulistiwa 2020 will be announced on Oct. 15.

T

he organizers of the 20th Kusala Sastra Khatulistiwa literary awards unveiled their shortlist for the prose and poetry categories on Sunday.

The awards are open to books published between June 2019 and July 2020.

In the poetry category, the nominees are Antarkota Antarpuisi (Intercity, Interpoetry) by Beni Satryo, Setelah Gelanggang Itu (After the Arena) by Esha Tegar Putra, Mama Menganyam Noken (Mother Weaves the Noken) by Gaudiffridus Sone Usna’at, Empedu Tanah (Ground Bile) by Inggit Putria Marga and Rusunothing by Ratri Ninditya.

The nominees for the prose category are Kisah-kisah Perdagangan paling Gemilang (The Most Brilliant Trade Stories) by Ben Sohib, Orang-orang Oetimu (People of Oetimu) by Felix K. Nesi, Rab(b)i by Kedung Darma Romansha, Surat-surat Lenin Endrou (Letters of Lenin Endrou) by Maywin Dwi-Asmara and Burung Kayu (Wooden Bird) by Niduparas Erlang.

“The winners of the 20th Kusala Sastra Khatulistiwa will be announced on Oct. 15,” wrote Richard Oh on Instagram. Oh is known as an author-filmmaker and one of Kusala Sastra Khatulistiwa’s initiators.

Established in 2001 by Oh and Takeshi Ichiki, formerly the director of Plaza Senayan shopping mall in Jakarta, Kusala Sastra Khatulistiwa aims to promote local literature and develop a reading culture in the country.

Past winners include Leila S. Chudori, Okky Madasari, Azhari Aiyub and Yusi Avianto Pareanom. (wir/wng)
