PT Sasa Inti’s consistency in its environmental protection has finally paid off.

For the second year, the company has earned a Planet Mark award for its commitment to concrete actions to reduce Sasa Inti’s carbon emission footprint by participating in the Eden Project and Cool Earth throughout 2020 until 2021.

Planet Mark is an institution that accompanies organizations or individuals to encourage people to do things that have a positive and meaningful impact on empowered communities and the environment.

PT Sasa Inti also said it was committed to this sustainable performance for the earth and environment. Since 2020, it has partnered with Planet First LLC, part of Planet Mark, a sustainability certification awarded under the collaborative Eden Project.

According to Planet Mark, since 2019, PT Sasa Inti has helped Cool Earth to support 13 collaborations related to the rainforest, protecting 86,000 hectares of rainforest and preventing 13,750 million tons of carbon from being released.

At least 1,133 employees from the company’s two factories significantly contributed to the company receiving the award, largely attributed to their reduced consumption of electricity, natural gas, diesel and gasoline, as well as better trash disposal, recycling sites, reduced water consumption and more efficient paper usage, which all have a big impact on the environment.

These actions continued throughout 2020 until early 2021, which led to PT Sasa Inti earning another Planet Mark certificate and recognition as being fully committed to reducing its carbon emission footprint by 14.8 percent.

The company received the first Planet Mark certificate in 2020 for its commitment to concrete actions to reduce its carbon emission footprint throughout 2019.

According to PT Sasa Inti, the Planet Mark certificate highlighted its commitment to improving sustainability in its environmental, social and economic performance, measuring and reducing the company’s carbon footprint every year and involving employees in environmental issues, as well as Cool Earth to stop deforestation.

The company also believed that it was crucial to protect the earth and all of this should start from the individual him/herself.

“The award represents the fruit of consistency that has had a great impact on Indonesian and global communities, and has helped them understand the importance of preserving natural resources for future generations,” it said. “Because the next generation has a right to live in a cleaner and better earth compared with previous years,” it emphasized.

The company also fully supports environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles, three areas that socially responsible companies work toward.

“We highly support any opportunity to protect the environment and, of course, our only planet,” the company said.

Aligned with the mission of PT Sasa Inti to raise the prosperity of the company’s employees and communities, are the constant innovations to produce superior, quality and fortified products such as Sasa Santan (coconut milk) that contains Omega 3 and 6 and fiber, and Sasa Tepung Bumbu (seasoned flour) that contains vitamins and minerals.

In a globally connected business environment, climate change certainly affects sales and the supply chain in the international market.

Looking ahead, PT Sasa Inti will be consistent in participating in the annual certification process to help encourage business operations that deal effectively with climate change, such as Planet Mark.
