JAKARTA: As an act of solidarity, actress Sandra Dewi is trying to fast during the holy month of Ramadan.

But when she feels very thirsty or hungry, she sneaks behind the wall for a nibble or a sip.

"I feel embarrassed and uncomfortable if I have to eat and drink in front of people who are fasting," confessed the 25-year-old actress, whose real name is Monica Nicholle Sandra Dewi Gunawan Basri, as quoted by okezone.com.

"Where we're shooting, most of the actors, actresses and film crew members are fasting, so if I get thirsty, I sneak behind the wall to have a drink."

Fasting is nothing out of the ordinary for the popular sinetron TV series actress, who was born in Pangkal Pinang in Bangka Belitung province, as most of her childhood friends are Muslims.

"I was fasting with my friends. What I like most about fasting is when we break the fast by eating dates," said the star of comedy flick Quickie Express. -- JP
