Indonesia's aces Sony Dwi Kuncoro and Taufik Hidayat will lead Indonesia's shuttlers to compete in the inaugural Yonex-Sunrise (Badminton World Federation) Super Series Masters Finals, which will be held in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia from Dec. 18-21.
Indonesia earned five slots in the US$500,000 contest which will feature the top eight qualifiers from each division. These results were decided by points obtained over the past 12 legs of the Super Series circuit.
Aside from Sony and Taufik, who will play in the men's singles, Indonesia's men's doubles pair Markis Kido and Hendra Setiawan, mixed doubles pair Nova Widianto and Lilyana Natsir, and women's doubles duo Vita Marissa and Lilyana Natsir have all qualified in the Masters.
Indonesia's veteran player Candra Wijaya has teamed up with Tony Gunawan, an Indonesian national playing for the United States, and both have qualified for the event.
Sony, who won the Indonesia Open, Japan Super Series and China Masters Super Series this year, said he was ready for the battle.
"Now, I am focusing on training to stabilize my physical conditions and perfect my techniques," said the runner-up, to Antara.
"I will prepare to face any shuttlers during my training. The most important thing is I have to play consistently," he said.
Meanwhile, China has lived up to its top billing as the badminton superpower, with its shuttlers -- led by world champion and Beijing Olympic gold medalist Lin Dan -- securing nine spots.
Despite skipping several legs of the Super Series, Lin proved to be on top of the world by making the cut for the Masters. He finished second in the recent Hong Kong Super Series last week.
"This will be the best of the best and a fitting end to this Olympic year," BWF Secretary General Stuart Borrie was quoted in a statement on the federation's official website.
The national federations have until Friday to confirm the players attendance.
