Most women have this confession to make: Looking beautiful feels good. No wonder so many women find such pleasure in spending time at beauty salons.

But it never seems to last for long. After going to all that effort to make some “me” time at the salon, you then head back out into the world, where you promptly get trapped in a traffic jam. And whoosh, there goes that “feel good” mood.

If this is your experience, why not try this smart option: Getting pampered by those beauticians or therapists in the peace and comfort of your own home?

Getting a spa treatment at home is also a way of making sure you can fit more into your tight daily schedule.

“People can have lots of money nowadays for treatments, but unfortunately, they just don’t have enough time to visit beauty houses,” says Listya Lailatu Zakiah, marketing officer for Jakarta’s Gaya Spa.

Gaya Spa offers the full spa experience at home, from body massages and scrubs to facials and hand and foot treatments. Simply pick up the phone and make an appointment.

Women’s busy schedules are one thing, Listya says, but Jakarta’s infamous traffic is another hurdle for beauty enthusiasts.

It is little wonder then that, as she points out, “Many of our customers prefer to get treated at home, with all the extra convenience [they can’t get at beauty salons].”

First introducing the concept of spa “home delivery” in 2007, Gaya Spa, located in Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, calls the service “Home Care Treatments”. According to Listya, the service comprises several packages determined by the number of treatments.

The starting package, for example, is priced at Rp 350,000 (US$31). “With that price, customers can get treatments like the body scrub and body massage,” she says, adding that the treatment takes 90 minutes.

Gaya Spa offers a several kinds of body massages, from the traditional Indonesian style to more exotic ones such as Hawaiian, French, Swedish, Thai, Chinese and Japanese. The popular stone massage is also available, along with reflexology, manicures and pedicures, as well as body waxing.

Among Gaya Spa’s customers are tourists staying in hotels.

“Some tourists just can’t find spa treatments at their hotel or are lazy about getting outside the hotel,” Listya says. “So what they do is call us to get our therapists to come to their place.”

Wherever you are in Jakarta, Listya suggests you make an appointment at least one day in advance.

Another beauty house offering home treatments is Studio Wax Poetre near Kemang, South Jakarta. As the name suggests, Poetre specializes in body waxing services, with additional treatments including threading, bleaching and manicures and pedicures.

Salon employee Pipin Rosiana says Poetre accepts orders only from women who live in the South and Central Jakarta areas.

The home treatment concept, Pipin says, came out of the experiences of salon’s co-owner actress Wulan Guritno.

“Once Mbak Wulan wanted to have her body waxed, but it happened that she didn’t have enough time to get to the salon because of her super-tight schedule. So she said why not make a home-to-home waxing service?

“After all,” Pipin adds, “having this treatment in our own home is more comfortable and it provides more privacy.”

With a minimum spend of Rp 125,000 for home services, she says, customers are free to choose any combination of the treatments on offer.

To reach that minimum spend, Pipin says, “You can get both waxing and manicure and pedicure treatments with your friends.”

Which can make it social too: “You’re free to include your friends in the treatments.”

Enjoying the salon experience with friends in the comfort and privacy of your home is one thing, but Poetre has more to offer: All treatments are quite affordable.

An underarm wax, for example, is only Rp 20,000. A full leg wax is Rp 50,000, and full body bleaching is Rp 185,000. Upper-lip threading and eyebrow threading are Rp 15,000 and Rp 20,000, respectively. Manicures and pedicures are priced at Rp 80,000.

Pipin suggests that customers make an appointment for home treatments at least one day in advance.

Beautician Amsani Koko will also bring her services to her door, but she operates alone, rather than for a beauty house. Having Amsani in your home is like having your own personal beauty consultant.

“I provide personal treatments to my customers from head to toe,” she says. “Most of my customers use my service because they also need to consult about their skin and hair problems.”

Amsani, who has more than 20 years’ experience as a beautician and who used to work for beauty house Martha Tilaar, offers a home spa treatment, as well as treatments for hair, body and face.

“Face problems like acne and anti-aging are just some of those that I treat in the home,” she says.

First-time clients must undergo a skin and hair analysis to determine what kind of treatments they must have, and Amsani says, “The analysis is free of charge.”

Amsani’s aim is to educate her clients about the importance of health over beauty.

“The problem with people is they’re happy enough to have beautiful skin, while the more important thing is to keep it healthy.

“And with my long experience, I want to share that with many people,” says Amsani, who has been carrying out her door-to-door service since the 1980s.

Amsani, however, underlines that she only offers her service, not products.

“For the home spa treatment, for example, most of my clients have their own preferred products,” she says. “My part is only the massaging and scrubbing, as well as other needed treatments.”

How much for a personal head-to-toe treatment? For Rp 500,000, “my customers get the whole treatment for hair, face, body and nails”, she says.

So with all these options out there, there’s no need for you to delay getting in a bit more “me” time. With these beauticians or therapists ready to welcome you at home after your hectic working day, half your fatigue and stress will vanish just at the sight of them.
