JAKARTA: The South Jakarta municipality plans to start removing illegal boom gates early May, an official said Monday.
The South Jakarta Transportation Agency listed 111 illegal gates, mostly found in Pondok Indah, Tebet, Fatmawati, Jl. Wijaya, Pancoran and Kalibata, according to Tedy Sutisna, the head of the agency.
"People should know the gates are used to regulate the speed and height of passing vehicles. It is not for security reasons like *gate builders* usually say," he was quoted by beritajakarta.com.
He said before erecting boom gates, residents had to seek permission from the transportation agency, according to a 2003 bylaw on traffic engineering.
Officers from the public order agency will remove the gates. - JP
