Your comments on Joko S. Tjandra's flight abroad one day before the court handed down its verdict finding him guilty of corruption.

The flight of Joko Tjandra abroad before the court handed down its verdict reflects law enforcers' recklessness. It is the obligation of the law enforcers to arrest him now.

There should be a mechanism to prevent such an incident happening again.

The Attorney General's Office (AGO) needs to investigate its staff and punish them if they are found guilty of helping Joko fly away.

Someone (or a group of people) must have had a role in releasing information about the verdict against him. For this embarrassing case, there must be an investigation into such a possibility and the culprits should be severely punished.

Tony Rooswiyanto

Jakarta

It has always been easy for those with money and power to escape from justice, like corruptors and those who were involved in human rights abuses.

While the crooks can get away from justice easily, innocents are getting punished. It is the task of the media to keep exposing such cases!

It is very likely that the fleeing corruptors, thieves and criminals are facilitated by corrupt law enforcers.

If we continue to allow the fox to guard the henhouse, we will continue to have a lot of dead chickens and a few fat foxes.

It should not be at all surprising that Joko S. Tjandra was able to leave the country without any encumbrance (allegedly with several family members, on a chartered flight and from Halim Perdanakusumah Airport no less!) just one day before his conviction was handed down.

As long as there are corrupt officials in the Indonesian courts, police and immigration, we can expect more convicted criminals merrily flying the coop to find refuge abroad, especially in countries which have no extradition treaty with Indonesia.
