DENPASAR: Dengue fever has claimed the lives of at least five children, according to Sanglah Central Hospital, with Kadek Putu Sukardika being the most recent victim.
The 5-year-old boy passed away Thursday morning, less than an hour after he was hospitalized.
"This year, dengue has hit children particularly hard," head of the hospital's team for dengue mitigation in children, BNP Arhana, said.
Most of the deaths were caused by a delay in getting proper treatment. Patients were only being rushed into hospital when their conditions had already declined severely. - JP
