NDONESIA: Hasri Ainun Habibie, the wife of former Indonesian president BJ Habibie, passed away on Saturday evening (Jakarta time) in a hospital in Munich, Germany, after undergoing a series of surgical procedures in the past few months, Metro TV reported.

Her relatives left Jakarta on Saturday for Munich. Habibie's son, Ilham, wrote in a post on social networking site Facebook earlier on Saturday that "my mother is in a very critical condition. My wife and I are on the way to Munich".

Her body would be flown to Jakarta on Sunday.

Since being admitted to the hospital in March, the 72-year-old had undergone nine surgeries. - JP
