That Agus Suratono’s record, that of an Indonesian Navy admiral, was not tainted by human rights offenses, is a mere claim that remains to be proved. In Indonesian law, the burden of proof is on the accused.
Since it is fair to accuse TNI officers of perpetrating crimes against humanity, or at least to be silent accomplices to those crimes, it is now up to Agus Suhartono and SBY to prove that both have a clean record.
If they fail to do so, they must be considered guilty.

The appointment of Adm. Agus Suhartono as the Indonesian Military commander at this moment should be applauded as a perfect decision. The real threat to our sovereignty lies along our maritime borders. The commander should alert the Navy and Air Force to form a real deterrent against any foreign provocation.
With limited equipment and resources, it is not an easy task, therefore this matter should be treated with the utmost priority. It is of no use to just express concern when our sovereignty is being challenged.

I just hope the next Indonesian Military chief will do his job better than his predecessor by upholding law enforcement for the sake of our nation, curbing terrorism and protecting the country, and not letting other countries take or claim Indonesian territory.
It will be a challenge for him to restore our dignity so that no one will look down upon our nation, as it used to be in the era of the Indonesian founders.
