he 2010 Platts Top 250 Global Energy Company Rankings put Indonesia’s largest single-site coal
producer, publicly-listed PT Adaro Energy, as third fastest growing Asian energy company based
on its three-year compound revenue growth.
The Platts top global energy company awards, announced and presented here Tuesday evening,
also rank the US$4.5 billion Adaro Energy firm the fourth in the category of coal and consumable fuels in Asia.
“Each company listed in the Platts Top 250 has distinguished itself through its remarkable performance and outstanding efforts and dedication of its team,” president of Platts Lawrence Neal noted.
Platts, based in New York and operates via 17 offices spanning five continents, is a division of the McGraw-Hill Companies and makes the leading global benchmark price assessments in energy markets.
Firms consider being awarded a ranking in the Platts Top 250 as prestigious and see the winners
of the Platts Global Energy Awards as the “Oscars” of the energy industry.
The ninth annual Platts 250 Global Energy Company Rankings measures companies’ financial performance using four key indices: asset worth, revenues, profits, and return on invested capital. And to be ranked at all, companies must have assets greater than $3 billion.
Adaro, which had $4.5 billion in assets as of September, got the award for its average annual
revenue growth of about 40 percent over the past three years. Adaro Chief Executive Officer Garibaldi Thohir said the international awards capped the national awards for various measures of best good corporate governance practices which his company had won over the past few years.
Only two Indonesian energy companies — Bumi Resources is the other one — got listed in the Platts Top 250 Energy Companies.
Such energy giants from the developed countries as Exxon Mobil, BP, Chevron and Royal Dutch still dominated the ten top spots, but two Chinese companies — Petrochina Co.Ltd. and China Petroleum and Chemical Group boasted the seventh and eighth positions.
Neal noted that whilst the latest global rankings highlighted the continued leadership of the major oil and gas companies they also pointed to the rapid advance of firms from Brazil, Russia, India and China.
