UPANG, East Nusa Tenggara: Kupang city councillors and Mayor Daniel Adoe are clashing over the inclusion of Rp 33 billion of allegedly suspicious allocations in the city’s 2011 budget.
Councillors dropped the allocations proposed by the city administration, saying the planned expenditures were made for unclear reasons and in certain cases only benefitted the interest of city officials.
Daniel responded by boycotting a thrice-delayed working meeting scheduled for Wednesday to discuss the budget.
“Mayor Daniel Adoe sent a letter informing us about the boycott, the second letter after Deputy Mayor Daniel Hurek sent a similar letter,” said council budget body member Isidorus Lilijawa.
“The fund cut was done because the budget allocation for transportation in the city, which covers six districts, reached Rp 4 billion [US$444,000],” Isidorus said. — JP
