P

resident Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and French Prime Minister François Fillon will jointly declare a strategic partnership between the two countries when both leaders meet on Friday.

“The declaration will become a solid base for more extensive and intensive bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and France in the future,” said Yudhoyono’s special staff for international relations Teuku Faizasyah.

Fillon was scheduled to arrive in Jakarta on Thursday and to return to France on Saturday. He was expected to visit to Kalibata Heroes Cemetery, meet Yudhoyono and attend a dinner on Friday.

Aside from jointly declaring a strategic partnership, both leaders will witness the signing of agreements on energy and mineral cooperation, tourism, education, museum management and volcanic handlings.

According to the French embassy in Jakarta, Fillon will be accompanied by French Research and Higher Education Minister Valérie Pécresse, Culture and Communications Minister Frédéric Mitterrand, Junior Minister for International Trade Pierre Lellouche and Junior Minister for Transportation Thierry Mariani.

“Some 30 CEOs of French companies will also join the entourage,” the embassy said in a press release.

Faizasyah said Fillon’s visit would strengthen cooperation between Indonesia and France in global forums, especially the G20.

“France and Indonesia are jointly chairing a working group on anti-corruption in the G20,” he said.
