I

refer to an article titled “UN still struggling to define racism 10 years after Durban,” (The Jakarta Post, Sept. 24, p.1).

Imagine living in a world where there are no interesting different cultures, where everything is so interconnected that we lose all culture and become one race. I have always thought it is wonderful that there are so many different races and different types of people. That’s what makes the world beautiful, with different flowers with different colors and scents.

Now imagine we define different colors as racism. Imagine if we force all creatures to dwell together and interbreed and we land up having one type of animal, one type of human, one type of flower with only one color. Is that not worse?

It is normal for lions to want to mix with lions, cheetahs to mix with cheetahs. Even nature knows this, but we humans brand everything racism.

Let us all love and respect our differences. Let us not force the issue. Even animals know where they belong, where they dwell, and which borders not to cross.

Let’s live and let live, and stop trying to interfere with Mother Nature. She’s done a good job. We on the other hand are starting something we may not be able to finish.
