KARTA: House of Representatives speaker Marzuki Alie on Wednesday inaugurated three new lawmakers from the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), the country’s largest Islamic party.

Mardani, Fridaus MA and Indra SH replaced three PKS lawmakers who no longer serve in the House: Arifinto, who resigned after being caught watching porn during a House meeting; Muhammad Misbakhun,
who was dismissed after being convicted of graft; and Yoyoh Yusroh, who passed away.

In his speech, Marzuki told the newly inaugurated lawmakers to help maintain a good rapport with the government. “We support the President’s [Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono] decision to improve relations between the government and the House.”

Marzuki is an executive of the Democratic Party, of which Yudhoyono is chief patron. PKS party faction chief Mustafa Kamal welcomed the new lawmakers, saying that they would boost the party’s energy at the House.
