EPOK: A school in Depok, West Java, has given students a one-week holiday to prevent the spread of hepatitis A.
The local government has put the city on alert for hepatitis A, which has spread among the residents.
An official from the state vocational school, Turmi, said that the school authority decided to send the students home after learning that 90 students suffered symptoms associated with hepatitis A.
“Most of them complained about nausea and headaches,” she said as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.
All the students were taken to a nearby hospital for checkups.
“Only four students tested positive,” Turmi said.
Depok Mayor Nur Mahmudi Ismail visited the school on Thursday after the report, saying that a majority of students were infected by the disease.
School officials said that the virus was transmitted by dining tables at a nearby canteen.
