ULELENG: State-owned PT Indonesia Power planted more than 5,000 coral reefs on Thursday near its Pemaron power plant in Singaraja, Buleleng regency.
The company’s general manager for Bali, Antonius R.T. Artono, said the initiative was part of a continued conservation effort targeting the coastal area around the plant.
“In this first stage, our target is covering an underwater area of one hectare with coral reefs,” he said.
The coral was attached to several artificial structures, including 12 pyramids, four reef balls, 10 tables and two Balinese traditional split gates, all of which were later sunk. The company cooperated with local fishermen to carry out the planting.
“The planting of these coral reefs is part of the company’s ‘Blue is the New Green’ program,” he said.
