AKARTA: City police spokesman Sr. Comr. Rikwanto said on Sunday that a Korean national living in Jakarta, identified as Kim Seong Rok, 49, was robbed by four men at the Sommerset Apartments in Setiabudi, South Jakarta, on Friday.
“The robbers walked away with Rp 200 million (US$22,000),” Rikwanto told reporters.
According to Rikwanto, Kim admitted during questioning that he had previously made a deal with the four perpetrators to borrow Rp 2 billion from them. On the Friday night of the attack, they had asked Kim to meet them, promising they would give him Rp 1 billion.
“The thieves asked Kim to bring Rp 200 million with him as administration money,” Rikwanto said.
When Kim finally met the robbers in one of the apartments, they snatched the Rp 200 million from him and hitting him on the head, which left him unconscious.
Kim reported the four men to the police on Saturday.
The police’s mobile detective chief, Adj. Sr. Comr. Herry Heryawan, said that his officers were checking the apartment’s CCTV recordings as part of their investigation.
