Runners, some dressed as characters from traditional wayang puppet performances, take part in the Jakarta Milo International 10-K race on Jl. Thamrin in Central Jakarta on Sunday. About 35,000 runners competed for Rp 600 million (US$64,800) in prize money, the race was held as part of the celebrations of Jakarta’s 485th anniversary. About 15 elite international athletes took part in the race. Kenyan runners again dominated the race with Silas Kirupto winning the international men’s category by clocking up a winning time of 29 minutes 20 seconds, while Kenya’s Philes Ongori won the international women’s category in 33 minutes and 12 seconds. Jauhari Johan of South Sumatra won the national men’s category with 30 minutes 52 seconds, while defending champion Triyaningsih defended her women’s category title for the seventh time in 34 minutes 53 seconds.
