AKARTA: President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono welcomed the newest member of his family, a grandson, the first child of his youngest son, Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono, and wife, Siti Rubi Aliya Rajasa, on Monday.

The Jakarta Post learned that the baby, weighing 3.35 kilograms and measuring 50 centimeters, was born soon after midnight at Pondok Indah Hospital, South Jakarta.

Aliya, the daughter of Coordinating Economic Minister Hatta Rajasa, was reportedly accompanied by members of her family and her in-laws during labor.

The newborn was named Airlangga Satriadhi Yudhoyono, Edhie later announced. “We tried to pick the best name for our son, as the name represents our prayers and hopes for him,” Edhie told reporters in a press conference on Monday.

Edhie said that the name Airlangga was taken from a great leader of the Kahuripan kingdom, a major kingdom that was founded in East Java in the 11th century. Edhie said that Airlangga was a man of good character.

Airlangga is Yudhoyono’s second grandchild after Almira Tunggadewi Yudhoyono, the daughter of the President’s eldest son, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, and wife, Annisa Larasati Pohan. Almira was born on Aug. 17, 2008.

As for Hatta, Airlangga is his first grandchild.
