It has been five years since indie music icon SORE released a full album.

The years in between were a continuous breezy afternoon as the group'€™s members continued to revel in praise for an extraordinary melancholy that invigorates their eclectic music. But the very tranquility turned into a silent evening. Lulling, yet, it was too dark to head anywhere.

Starting as school friends in Jakarta, the band originally was formed by Ade Paloh, Ramondo '€œMondo'€ Gascaro and Awan Garnida, and was later joined by drummer Bemby Gusti and Reza Dwiputranto.

After their songs featured in films, the group gained local and international acknowledgment for their sound invention.

While riding retropop featuring the soothing, slanting vocals in the movie soundtracks, their debut album
Centralismo in 2005 revealed that they could fly from jazz to rock in one composition. Without turbulence.

They did the same when they released their 2008 sophomore Ports of Lima. Sound programmer Dono Firman joined them on synths, keyboard and guitars on the second album. All musicians in the band play instruments and sing on the records.

Time magazine named Centralismo as one of the best five releases in Asia when it came out. Ports of Lima was named as the best album of 2008 by Rolling Stone Indonesia magazine.

The original five members have seen their lives become much more exciting outside the band. Guitarist and lead vocalist Ade had his adventure in the film industry, producing soundtracks and even starring in movies.

Other members like keyboardist/composer Mondo and drummer Bemby have also been involved in making music for various productions, while Reza got married.

Loyal fans were taken aback when guitarist and vocalist Ade Paloh tendered his resignation in 2010, followed by the band'€™s main composer Mondo last year. Ade, however, has decided to come back to the band and later this month they will release their third album.

Titled SOREaList, which is planned to be released on April 20, it will be a compilation of the previously unreleased movie soundtracks and also three new songs.

Awan, the band'€™s bass player, said the band is now in its mature years, would keep on growing and still has a driving, fiery spirit.

'€œSORE was born as a fortunate indie band that received support and positive attention from the indie scene. Thank God, now SORE has garnered wider listeners and acknowledgment across the country and aboard,'€ Awan said in an email interview with The Jakarta Post.

The band released the album'€™s first single '€œSsst...'€ last month, marking their 10 years of existence in the industry. Musing about a fatigued friendship that is getting unbearable after the emergence of unexpected love, the pop song still carries the SORE-esque flavor that comes easy and cuts at the same time.

SORE now consists of Ade, Awan, Bemby and Reza.

'€œWe continue to receive support and acknowledgment, which, honestly, have become our main obstacle from ever stopping producing work,'€ Awan said.

He said the concept of the album was to compile songs from SORE days when they were a five-piece and a six-piece, chosen based on positive attention and response from listeners and present them alongside their new works as a four-piece.

'€œSimilar to cooking, I would like to see whether the new dish is palatable. I personally think it'€™s still a very decent meal.'€

Awan admitted that Mondo had made an enormous contribution to the band, being the only member that was always present in everything they had achieved.

'€œIt can be said that Mondo had a great role in our success. How will SORE be without him? Only time and our new taste of music can answer it,'€ Awan said.
