restigious publication Diplomat magazine has named Indonesian ambassador to the United Kingdom and the Republicof Ireland Teuku Mohammad Hamzah Thayeb 'Diplomat of the Year fromAsia 2013.'
An honor given 'by diplomats, for diplomats', voteswere cast online by the diplomatic community in the UK. A panelcomprising former award recipients was also involved in the selection process, asreported
by Antara news agency.
Sir Christopher Meyer, the host of the event andformer UK ambassador to the US, said that Hamzah was consideredvery active and popular among the diplomatic corps as well as with thegeneral public.
Hamzah, whose father was also an ambassador to theUKin 1990, is currently the Chairman of the ASEAN LondonCommunity.
Among former recipients of the awardinclude Ambassador Fu Ying of China, High Commissioner Michael Eng Cheng of Singapore,and Ambassador Keichi Hayashi of Japan. (asw/dic)
