New building to adopt Betawi, green codes

J

akarta will soon have a new high-rise '€˜green'€™ building, which will be built in a fusion of traditional and modern architectural styles.

'€œJakarta Box Tower will be a 32-story office building with a unique combination of Betawi and modern design. The construction will consist of environmentally friendly materials and will feature open green spaces in its compound,'€ director of developer PT Mahardhika Artha Upaya, Wahyu Dewanto, said at a ground-breaking ceremony in Jl. Kebon Sirih, Central Jakarta on Wednesday.

Deputy Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, who led the ceremony, appreciated the aspiration of the company to build a green building.

'€œThe city administration will only issue permits to new high-rise buildings that meet green criteria and city spatial planning. This is a good example for those who want to build high-rise buildings in the future,'€ he said.

The Jakarta Box Tower is slated to be finished by the end of 2015.
