RI sends 21 students to share best practices in UK

T

wenty-one Indonesian students will spend a week and half in the United Kingdom as a part of the Outstanding Students for the World (OSTW), an annual program organized by the Foreign Ministry.

The students will have the opportunity to share best practices in various fields with their counterparts from several leading universities, including Cambridge and Oxford.

Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa said in Jakarta on Monday that it was expected that the program could become a stepping stone for the students to attain brighter achievements and play roles in enhancing '€œpeople-to-people relations'€ between the two countries.

'€œIndonesia has become a reservoir of trust in the world; therefore, the students are expected to build a network with their acquaintances in the UK,'€ he said in a ceremony to dispatch the students on Monday.

The OSTW 2013 program is scheduled to take place in Jakarta and London from June 1 to 11.

The participating students hailing from regions across the country have won competitions in various fields, such as math, biology, physics and chemistry, both at national and international levels.

One of the students, Fauzan Wiyra Yudha Prasetya from state vocational school SMK 29 Jakarta, has invented a six-cylinder aircraft, for example.

One of the program participants from Jayapura, Papua, Gresi Tifani Muabuay, said she was very excited about going abroad to promote Indonesian culture in the UK.

"I want to show to the world that we haven'€™t been left behind other countries," she said.

"We can be as good as the UK," said Gresi, who is in 11th grade. (fan/ebf)
