he Indonesian Maritime Security Agency (Bakamla) has sent two patrol vessels carrying a total of 160 tonnes of relief aid to residents affected by natural disasters sweeping the northern part of Sumatra.
“Bakamla is projected to distribute disaster relief aid to Aceh,” Bakamla’s director of maritime air operations Cdre. Bambang Somantri told The Jakarta Post on Thursday.
“Distribution of logistics to North Sumatra and West Sumatra is the responsibility of other agencies.”
Bambang was speaking during a ceremony at Magcobar Pier in Batu Ampar, Batam city, Riau Islands, to send off Bakamla patrol vessel KN Pulau Dana-323 carrying 90 tonnes of logistics to Krueng Geukeuh Port in Dewantara district, North Aceh regency, just outside Lhokseumawe city.
Scheduled to have arrived on Saturday, the patrol vessel carried various basic necessities, such as rice, cooking oil, instant noodles and mineral water.
“We also included medicines, baby supplies, sleeping supplies and electronics such as genset and rice cooker,” Bambang said.
“The choice of what kind of disaster relief to be sent is based on the estimated crucial needs for residents in the affected area. Additional goods, such as mats, are also included to support residents’ comforts in evacuation centers.”
