pproximately 500 people gathered at the house of the late Maridjan, the spiritualguardian of Mount Merapi, on the slopes of the mountain to pay homage and sharememories of him.
The gathering was organized to mark the 1,000th day since Maridjan was pronounced dead after the October 2010 Mt Merapi eruption.
The gathering was attended by volunteers, members of the search and rescue team and representatives of the Yogyakarta Disaster Management Agency, who prayed for Maridjan.
Besides paying homage to Maridjan, they also remembered the deaths of Indonesian Red Cross worker Tutur Prijono and Vivanews online journalist Yuniawan, both of whom also fell victim to the eruption.
'Time flies. It's been three years since he left us and yet he still remains with us in our hearts,' Maridjan's relative Agus Wiyarto said.(hrl)
