ndonesian shuttlers will cruise directly to the second round of the Badminton World Championships in Guangzhou, China, on Aug. 5-11 after earning byes in the opener.
According to the drawing announced on the Badminton World Federation (BWF) website, all Indonesian men's singles will have to face their contenders in the first round as well as three women's singles players.
'I think the game will be great. It won't be easy to determine who will win the championships,' said Joko Suprianto, the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) men's singles coach, as quoted by Antara news agency.
Tommy Sugiarto, who won the Singapore Open earlier this month, will take on Hans Kristian Vittinghus of Denmark.
Tommy, however, refused to comment on the possible rematch against his compatriot.
'There is a possibility I will have to play against [compatriot] Simon [Santoso], but I will focus on the first round against Vittinghus. He's one aggressive player,' he said.
Simon will play Hsu Jen Hao of Taipei in the first round. He also refused to comment further, saying he would focus on the matches one by one.
In the last World Championships in 2011 in London, Indonesia brought home only two bronze medals won by mixed doubles pair Tontowi Yahya and Lilyana Natsir and from men's doubles duo Muhammad Ahsan and Bona Septano while badminton powerhouse China made a clean sweep of all titles.
The last time Indonesia brought home gold medals were in 2007 in Kuala Lumpur, won by mixed doubles Lilyana and Nova Widianto and men's doubles pair of Markis Kido and Hendra Setiawan.
