Indonesia - China 3-2 in Yogyakarta

T

he home team won three titles at the Indonesia Open badminton championship in Yogyakarta on Sunday, with China snatching the remaining two titles.

Indonesia triumphed in the mixed doubles, men's doubles and men's singles, with the final matches all featuring home players.

Likewise, China had been assured of the women's singles and doubles titles the day before after securing an all-Chinese contest in the final matches in both events.

Praveen Jordan/Vita Marissa won the mixed doubles final 22-20, 9-21, 21-14 over world champions Tontowi Ahmad/Liliyana Natsir.

'€œWe played the game free of burden against the world champions. In the previous match, we extended into a rubber game. That gave us confidence that we could take our chances,'€ Vita said according to a press release.

The men's doubles final pitted Angga Pratama/Ryan Agung Saputra against Ronald Alexander/Selvanus Geh with the former prevailing 17-21, 21-15, 21-16.

Simon Santoso, who has seen his world ranking fall due to a long absence, returned victoriously to the tournament with a 21-17, 21-11 win over Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka.

The title winners for China were Di Suo, who defeated Xue Yao 21-12, 22-20 in the women's singles, and Ying Luo/Yu Luo, who overcame Dongping Huang/Yi Fan Jia 19-21, 21-15, 21-18 in the women's doubles.
