alembang Mayor Romi Herton was grilled by the CorruptionEradication Commission (KPK) over allegations that he had bribed formerConstitutional Court chief justice Akil Mochtar to win a favorable ruling fromthe court.
Speaking after eight hours of questioning, Romi said that he had explained his version of the story to the KPK prosecutors, including the reason for a dubious money transfer from Akil's bank account amounting to Rp 500 million (US$44,000).
'I already completely cooperated with the KPK. I have explained everything,' he told reporters at the KPK's headquarters in Kuningan, South Jakarta.
Romi said that the Rp 500 million was transferred from his wife to her own bank account.
He added that he had proof to back up his claims.
Romi was first implicated in the Akil bribery case after the KPK searched his house and office in Palembang last month.
Romi said the KPK had confiscated four cell phones, financial transaction receipts and documents related to the Constitutional Court's ruling on the Palembang election lawsuit.
Akil is believed to have received billions of rupiah from local politicians involved in election disputes adjudicated by the Constitutional Court, which was led by Akil before his arrest in early October.
Earlier this year, the court had ruled in favor of Romi, who had initially lost the Palembang mayoral election to upstart pair Sarimuda and Nelly Rosdiana by only eight votes.
