This year's FFI, which was held at the Marina Convention Hall in Semarang, Central Java, was attended by Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Mari Elka Pangestu, Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo, Semarang Mayor Hendrar Prihadi, as well as more than 283 actors and filmmakers.
A number of events were held to celebrate this year's film festival. On Saturday morning, for instance, the FFI committee held a mass exercise session, attended by celebrities and led by actress and aerobics instructor Vicky Burky at Semarang City Hall.
FFI, formerly known as National Film Appreciation Week, was first initiated by H Jamaludin and H Usmar Ismail in 1955.
It later became an annual event in 1973, but the committee decided to stop the event in 1993 due to the lack of local movies being produced.
The FFI was revived in 2004 as the local movie industry started to flourish again.
The festival, however, has been marred by a series of controversies, including selection and nominations.
