n a night of glamor and festivities, the Indonesian Film Festival (FFI) awarded Reza Rahadian the '€œbest actor'€ award for a third time.

Reza took the Citra Award for his role as Indonesia'€™s third president B.J. Habibie in last year'€™s best-selling movie Habibie & Ainun.

The movie also won '€œbest costume design'€ and '€œbest screenplay'€ awards.

'€œI thank God.. my mom..and my grandmother who just passed away. She'€™s was a revolutionary woman, a true socialist,'€ said Reza.

Actress Adinia Wirasti won '€œbest actress'€ for her role in road movie Laura & Marsha.

Senior actress Jajang C. Noer was named '€œbest supporting actress'€, earning a Piala Citra (Citra Award) for her role in Cinta Tapi Beda (Love but Different).

This is Jajang'€™s second Citra after she won her first in 1992 for her performance in Bibir Mer (Mer'€™s Lips).

Sang Kiai (The Leader), a movie about Muslim leader K.H. Hasyim Ashari, took the most awards for '€œbest movie'€, '€œbest director'€ for Rako Prijanto, '€œbest supporting actor'€ for Adipati Dolken as well as '€œbest sound editing'€.

Among other winners were Eltra Studio, who won '€œbest visual effects director'€ for Moga Bunda Disayang Tuhan (Hopefully Mom is Loved by God), and Cesa David Luckmansyah won '€œbest film editing'€ for Rectoverso. Yudi Datau won best cinematographer for 5cm while Anggoro Saronto won best original screenplay for Sang Pialang (The Broker).

Thriller Belenggu (Shackles) took home two awards for '€œbest art director'€ for Iqbal Marjono and '€œbest music director'€ for Aksan Sjuman.

The FFI committee also awarded Split Mind the '€œbest short documentary'€ and Denok & Gareng the '€œlong documentary'€ award.

This year'€™s FFI, which was held at the Marina Convention Hall in Semarang, Central Java, was attended by Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Mari Elka Pangestu, Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo, Semarang Mayor Hendrar Prihadi, as well as more than 283 actors and filmmakers.

A number of events were held to celebrate this year'€™s film festival. On Saturday morning, for instance, the FFI committee held a mass exercise session, attended by celebrities and led by actress and aerobics instructor Vicky Burky at Semarang City Hall.

FFI, formerly known as National Film Appreciation Week, was first initiated by H Jamaludin and H Usmar Ismail in 1955.

It later became an annual event in 1973, but the committee decided to stop the event in 1993 due to the lack of local movies being produced.

The FFI was revived in 2004 as the local movie industry started to flourish again.

The festival, however, has been marred by a series of controversies, including selection and nominations.
