BERLIN: Short movie Sepatu Baru (New Shoes) by Indonesian Aditya Ahmad was given a Special Mention award by Children's Jury for The Generation KPlus category at the Berlinale International Film Festival.
Sprout from South Korea won The Best Short Film award.
The festival's official website quoted the jury as saying: 'We saw a touching story about a girl who wishes with all her heart to stop the rain. Through its wonderful imagery, this film gave us an understanding of the tradition of a faraway country.'
Aditya, a film student at the Arts Institute of Makassar (IKM), was surprised by the award.
'I'm a rookie at this kind of festival. It is a big surprise for me personally,' said the director, as quoted by tempo.co.
'There was an issue that IKM was about to shut down. There was a concern that if I didn't produce the movie, I might never produce one. So, I produced it anyway,' he added.
