Indonesian comedic icon Jojon died at Jatinegara Premiere Hospital in East Jakarta on Thursday due to heart-related issues. His body was brought to the Imperial Golf Estate housing complex in Sentul, Bogor, Kompas.com reported on Thursday.
It has been reported that Jojon will be buried at Kebon Pedes cemetery in Bogor.
Jojon was the stage name of Djuhri Masdjan, who was born in Jakarta on June 5, 1947. During the prime time of his career in the 1980s, Jojon ignited laughter in audiences along with members of the Jayakarta comedic group, namely Cahyono, Uuk and Johny, who then left the group and was replaced by Prapto alias Esther.
Cahyono, who has left the comedic stage to become a preacher, is now the only surviving member of the troupe. Uuk, Johny and Prapto alias Esther passed away years ago.
Jojon, who used to adorn a Charlie Chaplin style mustache on stage, has earned his place among the country's legendary comedians such as the late Bing Slamet, Kasino, Dono, Timbul and Basuki, to name a few. (dic)
