pecial staffer for Indonesia's foreign minister for law and security, Wiwiek Setyawati, met on Monday acting Malaysian Transportation Minister Hishamuddin Hussein in Kuala Lumpur to discuss developments during the ongoing search and rescue (SAR) operation for missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.
Indonesia's Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the visit aimed to convey Indonesia's support and commitment to finding the missing plane, Antara news agency reported.
Wiwiek also conveyed a message from the families of the Indonesian passengers, requesting the latest information regarding the search operation. Seven Indonesians were on board flight MH370.
During the one-hour meeting, Wiwiek said that Indonesia understood the complexity of the search. However, the missing passengers' families asked that the search for the missing jetliner be continued until there was concrete proof of its whereabouts.
Meanwhile, Malaysia's Hishamuddin expressed his gratitude for the Indonesian government's assistance in the search efforts.
He also stated that Malaysia Airlines had expressed its commitment to honor the rights of the families of all the passengers, and would pay insurance and compensation once the airplane was found.
Indonesia has been actively involved in the search for flight MH370, which went missing on March 8.
Several Navy vessels and Air Force planes have been deployed to help in the search since the search location was switched to an area in the Indian Ocean located southwest of Indonesia.
The country has so far given 96 flight clearances to foreign aircraft from nine countries in the search for the missing plane. (***)
